As a fairly new Torontonian, I experience moments of delight when I see representations of my new city on the screen. Before relocating here, I even studied up by watching Toronto Stories. My enjoyment of Paris, Je T’Aime certainly also gave me a nudge towards another film with multiple directors submitting short pieces, that come together into a feature. It’s an excellent method to introduce a city. Each neighborhood in Toronto has such distinct characteristics, they give you a lot to play with trying to capture the energy to put it on screen.
I’m so excited to continue my education in representations of a city on screen, with the T24 Project. Each team will receive the challenge question “usually pertaining to how our city is incorporated into various facets of arts and culture”, then disappear into the city for 24 hours to make a short film that answers the challenge question. “As a local festival for local emerging artists, we want you to represent Toronto as a living entity rather than just a backdrop.”
So, what does your Toronto look like? Register for the T24 Project and show us!
