From 8 pm Friday February 15th until 8 pm Saturday February 16th, nine teams of young filmmakers descended on the streets of Toronto, with cameras in hand. Out of the nine teams, eight ended up submitting a film, six of which were submitted early enough to be considered for a jury prize. Each team was given a dense, page long essay-based challenge question about tensions between the modern and the retro, using parallels of architectural aesthetics and contemporary cinematic experiences as inspiration. The length of this question was met with mixed reactions from our contestants.
Each team had to conceptualize, write, shoot, and edit a film based on the essay question they received. Needless to say, it was a crazy 24 hours.
This Thursday March 7th, at Rainbow Market Square Cinema, all 8 of our completed submissions will be screened. Two prizes will be awarded: one for the jury selection and one for the audience’s choice. So come on out this Thursday and cheer on your favourite film! And if you want a sneak peek, you can check out this teaser of this year’s films.
You can buy your tickets here. See you on Thursday!
